A Glowing Evening at Point Wilson

For a while it looked like the third annual Night for the Light at Point Wilson might be washed out. A string of early-season showers had us all checking the sky and wondering if the evening could go ahead. But just in time the weather shifted—clouds broke, the air softened, and by late afternoon the light station looked as welcoming as ever.

As the first notes of music carried across the lawn, the evening settled into exactly what we’d all been hoping for: a relaxed gathering of neighbors and friends, with the lighthouse as our backdrop. Musicians Kevin Brooks, “Sweet Mary” Farr, and Budapest West brought their artistry, energy, and good humor to the porch of the duplex, filling the space with songs that seemed made for the setting.

About forty people, spread their picnic blankets and camp chairs across the lawn between the duplex and the lighthouse. Some shared food, others wandered in and out of the tower for tours, and everywhere you looked there were small groups of people in conversation, soaking in the break in the weather, good music, and the quiet beauty of Point Wilson.

It was, in every sense, a Night for the Light. We left with the glow of the lighthouse, the music, and the community still lingering—and we’re already looking forward to next year’s gathering.
