Celebrate the Return of the Fresnel Lens at Point Wilson Lighthouse!

Big news, everyone — we’ve got something truly special to celebrate!

Celebration of the Light event poster

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 7, 2025, because the Point Wilson Lighthouse and the United States Lighthouse Society (USLHS) are throwing a Celebration of the Light — and you’re invited! From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we’ll be gathering at the lighthouse to mark a major milestone: the restoration and relighting of the original 1894 Fresnel lens!

This isn’t just any old lightbulb moment. Fresnel lenses were a true game-changer in the 19th century, revolutionizing lighthouse technology and helping to keep countless sailors safe at sea. Restoring the original lens and putting it back into service is a beautiful way to honor that history — and to keep the legacy alive for generations to come.

As Jeff Gales, Executive Director of the USLHS, put it:

"Lighthouses have served as critical navigational aids and symbols of safety throughout American history. Returning this Fresnel lens to service represents our commitment to preserving these historic structures and their technological innovations for future generations."

What’s Happening at the Celebration?

We’re pulling out all the stops to make this a fun and festive day for the whole community! Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Live music from local favorites Cold Comfort, Marco Marco, and Afterlife Gift Shop

  • Food and drinks available for purchase (come hungry!)

  • Raffles and games for all ages

  • Guided tours of the lighthouse, including a close-up look at the newly restored lens

  • Educational displays sharing the fascinating history of maritime navigation and lighthouse technology

Admission is completely free!(But if you feel inspired to make a donation, every dollar goes toward continuing the preservation work at Point Wilson Lighthouse.)

No registration needed — just show up, bring your friends and family, and be part of this special day!

Why It Matters

Standing proud at the western edge of Admiralty Inlet, Point Wilson Lighthouse has been guiding mariners safely into Puget Sound since the late 1800s. It’s more than a landmark; it’s a living piece of our region’s coastal heritage. Restoring and relighting the historic Fresnel lens is about more than just preserving the past — it’s about lighting the way forward.

We can’t wait to celebrate this shining moment with you.
